4 User Centered Design must haves

19 02 2009

Just because you guys like the shortlists. I will give you another one:
1) Link your business objectives to user goals. These two goals need to match. Sometimes an underlying user need is meeting the business objective.

2) The use of Personas has different levels: ideally you update your persona on each project based on quantitative and qualitative research

3) Take action with user targeting. Involve your customers within product creation

4) Use personas to guide your Agile development process. You can prioritize the features which need to be build based on priority of your personas.

Truly Customer Centric

15 02 2009

How to become truly customer centric. Just been reading the report “Giving the customer voice more volume“. I would like to share the highlights with you:

- Customer Experience is increasingly important in determining brand advocacy and business performance (ROI)
- Track your customer email and analyse the nature of it -> adapt your FAQ on every sales channel with it.
- Start your customer voice at the CEO, CMO, CIO or whatever you call it within your office. The Management board need to talk with the audience and act relatively to it.
- Define a solid business case on why you should have “happy customers”. try to measure the ROI on customer initiatives.
- Start to file your customer data. Not only is this a technie thing, please know how to listen and talk to your customer. Not only in the front lines, but within every level in the organisation
- Set Customer Focused KPI throughout the organisation. Make the KPI SMART and hold your managers accountable for them
- Get rid of the legacy which conflicts your customer centricity.
- Analyse your processes on “giving your customers what they deserve”. Every hickup within the process should be analysed, defined and fixed. (as much as possible, within reason).
- Define within every new project the question “what’s in it for the customer”. How will it affect your business value for him
- Reward people for being customer centric.

And indeed, if you think this should be to ambitious, please shut down your computer, and go talk to a customer. any customer.

HDI new intuitive user interface

7 02 2009

Once a year we have great speakers on the world forum called TED. This year I was absolutely astonished about the new user interface design (presented allready in 2006!!), which we will be the next generation of accessing with our data. Imagine a tool where you can intuitively interact with your screen. No keyboard neccessary, but totally based on the fingertouch. Please have a look at the video below. This is from a user experience perspective a great breakthrough. @ Eden Design: please help us to implement such a lab at the ANWB ;-)
